A Year Ago Today: "Microsoft: Zune Available now"

A year ago today I wrote a quick snippet about the, at that time, new Microsoft Zune, yesterday the second version of these amazing MP3 players were released on U.S. shelves nationwide. I for one am happy to say I am now a proud owner of one of these terrific devices. If you would like to see the photos I have taken of my new Zune, visit the Community Page > Flickr Group, the latest photos will be in the group.

"Microsoft released it's first ever marketed portable media player. Name, Zune, looking at this little media player from a distance you could see how it would resemble an 'ipod' but make no mistake this is no ipod, in fact it's the ipods worst nightmare. Up until today apple has had no real competitors, basically apple has been running a monopoly on the portable media industry. I mean sure there have been a few innovations from time to time, but nothing like what Microsoft has unleashed today. You can view a ton more information than previously offered by Microsoft at there new web site announcing / advertising the Zune at, http://www.zune.net. Personally I am very excited at the thought of the Zune, and it looks a lot better than the ipods, sure its a bit thicker, but when your talking about how small everything is now a days does 1mm really make a difference? Also the fact the Zune has built in WiFi to share you music to nearby Zune users, and not to mention that you can customize the background (unlike the ipod), and a ton better features to help you organize and find your media. Overall the Zune is looking more and more like the so called 'ipod killer' name it has been dubbed."

NAGC + Steam

If you take a look around the site you will notice a few updates, for starters there have been some updates on the visual side of the site. The login boxes on the right hand side of the site have a cool JavaScript attached now, and the 'Join Request Application' has also has had a major makeover. The 'Roster' page has gotten a few new games added, such as Battlefield 2142 and Silkroad Online. If you visit the 'Community' page you will notice a new group, 'Steam Group', you can view/join the NAGC Steam Group by: Launching the STEAM application on your desktop > Click Community > Click the Search Box in the top right-hand corner of the window > Type NAGC > Press Enter > Click 'Northern Assassins Gaming Clan (NAGC) > Click 'Join this group' on the right side of the window. Or if you prefer to do it on your work PC (or any pc that doesn't have STEAM installed) you can simply: Click 'Community' on the navigation bar above > Click 'Click here' for in the Steam Group row > Click 'Join this group' (you must be logged in). So now that you know how to join the new group, what exactly is it for? Well, the Steam Group is very similar to the Xfire Group, both corresponding applications have a Friends list, and both Groups are based around simplifying communication between select people (clan/group members). Also both have time stats, showing how many hours everyone has played and all other things you would expect from a group, announcements ect. So basically it could be said that the new Steam Group's is much like an Xfire Group rip-off, but who really cares? So now that I took five minutes of my life explaining how to join our group, take one minute of yours to actually do it! As for some of the promises I have made in the past such as a new 'site-overhaul', the Xbox Live division, and the NAGC WinVista Gadget, those are still on my list of things-to-do, but just haven't had time to get to them with the release of 'Halo 3' and 'The Orange Box', so thanks for staying tuned in on the latest updates from yours truly, and keep sticking around for further updates!

Eagle's Update

Today I updated a lot of content, bad links, and removed some inactive players. Also made some tweaks to the PHP script to load a bit faster. In a few weeks I will start a web site-overhaul, where we will be getting a member system and break away from the forums as the main log-in system, also an updated News system, also be ready to have a NAGC RSS Reader GADGET, for the Vista Sidebar. Keep your eyes open in the next month or so for some great updates!

New Division: Live Team

This is some pretty big news, but I would like to create a new clan division, Live Team. By reading this topic's title you can probably assume that, yes, this means we are jumping cross-platform. Don't worry this is not official yet, but under consideration due to the near-future gaming of cross console-compatibility. So your suppose to know what that means eh? No, basically with Microsoft's Windows Vista hitting the market place in exactly seven days you will find that within a few months or so people across the world will be playing each other via Vista PC -or- Xbox 360. The amazing service behind this is no other than Xbox Live. Now I'm not entirely sure if Vista will ship with Live Anywhere (the application that you run, like xfire, that will hook you up to the Live Community), or if you will download it, but none the less it is the future of PC gaming and will completely shake the gaming world as we know it. If you would like to discuss this "pretty big news" please create/add your feed back on the designated topic.

New Hosting: Pod Networks

Hope you all can cope with the new site URL. I know it can be hard getting use to, but a known downside to crappy free hosting is sometimes the free can kill the hosting, if that makes any sense... Lucky for me I have a friend that owns his own web hosting company (Pinnacle Of Destruction Networks, thus pod-networks) and after a beg or so gave up another URL. Another good note is that our forums are still saved and no posts were deleted in the process. You may notice that on each of your profile pages, you are missing your dog tags, this is because for some reason I have somehow corrupted the file (on my own pc), so back to the drawing board I go, but I always back up images and so on so after I re-create the tag it should be working the exact same as before, if not better. As always, GG Noobs!

NAGC RSS Feed Widget: Updated!!

Our NAGC RSS Feed Widget is now updated, and back to business. The current version for the widget is 2.0. I made quite a few updates such as, new GUI (there were pixel errors on the old skin), updated 'Quick Links' (my 'company' has a new name), updated number of topics display (from 9 topics to 4, since currently the news feed is a bit slow), and now the widget updates less per hour, so it always runs good on any pc. Besides that nothing really has changed on the widget, it still has that 'glass' look, but this time I modified the skin to match the site a little tiny bit more.

Site Back Up!

There is a shared amount of good news and bad amongst this topic. The good would be that our site is back up with no real loss, such as files missing, or so on. So just to make sure, I have fully re-uploaded all of our site's files and made corrections where needed. But sad to say our forums are still down. Well partially; you see the hack that tore through Fragism was simple indeed, in simplest terms it basically ran through ever folder in the server and replaced files such as 'index.htm', 'index.html' and 'index.php' to the 'hacked page'. That's all, but by doing that it also replaced the forums index pages (which I can not access, as admin). So if you were to view the forum, it would look as if it is no more, but if you used the 'topic browser' on the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you can choose the previous topic, and can find that all of our posts and so on are still there! So it seems the required steps back to harmony for the Fragism guys is just to fix their index page, and fix the 'forums index pages'. I predict in the near future we can be full speed yet again. Thanks for your understanding guys, Eagle.

rTech RSS

It is done. The script that has been pounding my head for the last month is finally finished, and I have to admit, it's most likely the best thing I have ever made. This script was programmed in PHP, and basically it reads an RSS Feed, such as our NAGC NEWS feed located at http://bar.pod-networks.com/rss/index.xml, and displays the content, formatted and all. Along with the images you will see to the left of each news topic. So all news now is fully read by the xml file, this means I only add one thing to a file, and boom, it updates the RSS Feed, News Page, and what ever else I want to incorporate with our clan news. So, what now? Well you all know I have been obsessively working on our clan site for the past two to three months now, but we still don't have a sturdy web site, such as a roster, decent content and so on. So I will now officially start working on content! But I can't set a due date due to the amount of time I spend on my work, and if I did set a specific time you would probably quit the clan, ha-ha, joking!! So I'll see you guys on the forums!

NAGC + Xfire

Xfire has added a pretty cool expansion to their web site; Clans and Guilds. As soon as I read about this new feature I created a group for us, so now when you log in on xfire you should receive a little invitation. Basically all I see out of this is that it will keep an updated 'group' type thing on xfire; meaning if you look at your 'friends' list it will have created a group under the name of the clan, and will add / subtract members based on if I accept them or ban.
